Fire at recycling plant in Blackburn engulfs 100 tons of plastic

A fire that ripped through a plastic recycling plant was narrowly prevented from escalating to a bigger disaster, fire services have said.

The blaze, at the V10 Polymers plant in Blackburn, consumed some 100 tons of plastic in the early hours of Monday morning.

Authorities believe the fire may have been started deliberately.

Around 20 homes had to be evacuated and residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut as large amounts of smoke filled the area.
